Belvedere del Marabutto – Bordighera

The Marabutto, nestled in the Capo Pinewood, is a cubic stone building probably dating back to the 18th century. Its original function remains uncertain: mausoleum, private chapel or small place of worship.

Today it has been transformed into a belvedere and, in 1971, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Bordighera’s foundation, three ancient coastal cannons were placed on its terrace. Nicknamed Butafoegu, Tiralogni and Cacastrasse, they are now symbolically pointed towards the sea, giving the site both historical charm and collective memory.

From the terrace one can enjoy a wide view over the sea and the old town, made unforgettable at sunset.
