Aqua Mater

The exhibition "Aqua Mater" by Giacomo Barberis is born out of the artist's profound passion for the sea and scuba diving; in fact, the paintings on display, with their contours never rigid, but vague and undefined, suggest the liquidity of the sea and at the same time represent his personal expression after recent severe visual problems that cause him image dissociation and lead him to reject photographic documentation and to draw from his still intact memory to paint. From the Depths (which is ultimately the depth of every human soul) emerge ethereal creatures, perhaps improbable, floating from the sea of Reality to the broader ocean of the collective unconscious.
